Contacted american Honda and was told that work would not be authorized due to 3rd party clearing codes. Dealer maintained position that they were not authorized to do the work under the warranty. I also expressed that this is a legitimate safety concern in that the failure was sudden and unexpected and that if my wife was driving the vehicle with my children aboard and the failure occurs in traffic or as she is merging or entering a roadway, a crash can occur. I expressed concern that this is a known and documented defect, yet they will not repair. Their recommendation is to drive vehicle until issue arises again (not if issue arises, but when issue arises) and to have it brought back to dealer for repair. After bringing in vehicle, dealer advises that under warranty they are not authorized to do repair as the codes were cleared by 3rd party and are not showing now. I contact dealership and make appointment for next morning (2/23). Replaces 3 spark plugs to make vehicle drivable and clears codes. Informs wife of piston/engine recall and service bulletins. Proceeds to the nearest vehicle service location (not a Honda dealer). On, my wife was driving vehicle, suddenly hesitates and stalls. He said that Honda is aware of this problem and I should call american Honda automobiles (80).

The service rep said that this problem is not a result of any driver action or lack of maintenance. I asked him if the malfunction could have been prevented. He told me that this issue was not covered by the warranty. The rep said that this issue allowed oil to pass by the multiple oil rings on the piston into the chamber and fouled the spark plug.

On the following Monday, a service rep called me with the diagnosis code p0303, which he said indicates that a misfire was detected in the #3 cylinder. Then I called roadside assistance and my van was taken to my Honda service dept. Since he couldn't identify the problem, he advised me not to start the engine and drive because it could possibly cause more damage, and the vehicle was not safe to drive. The service rep asked me about a previous repair noted on his computer for an issue the van had regarding the replacement of an oil sensor in October 2019, and if it was related. The only fix then seems to be a �hard� shutoff that requires opening the driver door and pushing the ignition button, closing the door, pushing the ignition button, and shifting to drive. When the car fails to start, a variety of warning messages will be displayed on the dashboard.
